Description
Sheep Fleece for general garden uses. 1kg average weight, this is about the size of two small carrier bags.
This is ideal for:
- Mulching – adds layers to your compost, increases the nitrogen in your mulch
- Water retention – mix small pieces to the soil in your potted plants to retain moisture
- Slug Repellent – place around the base of your plants to protect them from slugs
What Sheep Fleece is used for Garden Fleeces?
We use the parts of the fleece that are less suitable for spinning, so this will often be the coarser wool found around the sheep’s rump or on their belly. Garden Fleeces are made up of the wool of several different sheep and even from different breeds.
How we Shear our Sheep
Our sheep are all sheared by hand, on our family farm by a professional shearer, to minimise the stress to the animal. Shearing is a very important process that helps the sheep by removing last year’s wool growth and ensuring that the sheep does not get too hot which can lead to iIllness.
Our sheep are raised year round on organic Orkney pasture, which encourages growth of a thick warm fleece with a longer staple length.
All of our sheep are native to the UK or rare, and especially to northerly climates.
